Julia is an independent designer based in Amsterdam. Next to her graphic design work in studio Juli Chaos, she often moves off the page, to work on three- dimensional projects within the film industry.
She has worked on
various projects including production design, art direction, set design, and custom prop making for short and feature film, music videos and commercial shoots.
Hello, I’m Julia Isabel van der Veen (1995), a graphic designer based in Amsterdam (NL) working in short and feature film, commercials and other moving image projects. I often collaborate with young and emerging directors and artists experimenting with visual storytelling.
I’ve worked on various productions as a graphic designer, responsible for all graphic and printed matter within sets, such as posters, brand identities, vintage packaging adn the design of (interactive) apps and websites.
Beyond graphic work, I’ve led production design on several short films, designed and built sets for commercial shoots, and provided art direction for music videos.
Whether I work on a composition on paper or the design of a space, my graphic practice is central to all my work. When a project moves off the page, I turn graphic principles into physical form — using composition, colour, and materiality to design conceptual environments and objects that support the narrative.
I’m available to collaborate either as a production designer leading the art department, or as a graphic designer, responsible for graphic elements on set. I can also contribute hands-on construction skills for the building of décor and installations.
